The following parameters have been set for this game:
World size is 192 by 144.
There can be up to 120 countries.
By default, countries use their own coordinate system.
An Empire time unit is 1350 seconds long.
An update consists of 64 empire time units.
Each country is allowed to be logged in 200 minutes a day.
It takes 25.00 civilians to produce a BTU in one time unit.
A non-aggi, 100 fertility sector can grow 0.12 food per etu.
1000 civilians will harvest 1.3 food per etu.
1000 civilians will give birth to 5.0 babies per etu.
1000 uncompensated workers will give birth to 2.5 babies.
In one time unit, 1000 people eat 1.0 units of food.
1000 babies eat 12.0 units of food becoming adults.
Banks pay $250.00 in interest per 1000 gold bars per etu.
1000 civilians generate $8.33, uncompensated workers $3.78 each time unit.

Two months after start, March 31, 1992
Last week was a relatively peaceful week, with only a few small skirmishes.
The only major casualty was Avalon Isle, who was destroyed by Happy_People
and Tofu_Nation. Crustyland took a little land from Asylum, and the
never-ending war between CIS and Asylum continues, with no clear victor
in sight. Elaking, darkwing, and Byzantium fought over the neglected
lands of spam. Darkwing eventually took the capitol, but didn't get
much money out of it because he bombed it to death first. Byzantium
and darkwing continued fighting in another long, drawn out war. Byzantium
appeared to have a bit of an upper hand. In addition, minor skirmishes
between Elaking and darkwing have also been reported.
In other news, Queen Leigh of Dagga used her charms to entice Metzada and
ACTIUM to pound on SS-FINLAND, a country twice her tech level, but yet
unable to overrun Dagga for weeks.
Economically speaking, rumors of tech overproduction among the tech leaders
abound. Small nukes are on the immediate horizon, with the leaders perhaps
getting them this week.

This week begins with a major dogpiling, and many rumors. After the game
came up (it is down on the weekends), Tenochtitlan, Happy_People, Ghostlands, ACTIUM, and Ionica all had a part in a major action against Lochett. It was an allnighter, as at 12:30pm local time the war began, with Tenochtitlan,
Happy_People, and Ghostlands staying up much of the night capturing
Lochett territory. ACTIUM and Ionica continued the assault in the early
hours of the morning, and combat continues almost to this minute.
Lochett was unusually poorly defended, and was badly romped
by the aforementioned countries.
It was well known that the origional player who played Lochett gave up
the country a short while back, but it was not really known who the country
was given to. The answer to this explained a lot of why lochett's defenses
were so poor. The diety posted the following:

I show this to you as evidence of a violation of the golden
rule "Thou shalt not playeth two countries at the same time"
and of the unspoken rule about
"Thou shalt be fodder if thou violateth the aboveth.."
Interestingly enough, Guppy (qgyjp) was at war with Lochett, and allied
to some of the countries who attacked Lochett.
[Editor's note: I never did like him. He played as "~" in some other games.
His offensive attitude towards neighbors was largely the trigger for the
dogpile. His actions on logging in were to re-designate his capital and
announce "Fuck you all". The above explains why so many sectors that had
been contested kept appearing as deity-owned for brief periods before changing
ownership. It was the fact that qgyjp was also run by someone unpleasant that
kept him from being included in the dogpile plans. Live and Learn. /tn].

Two and a half months after start, April 15, 1992
Well, here is another Ualberta game summary posting on behalf of the diety.
The diety's only comment he wanted me to include is as follows:
"Arf!!! arf!! The dogs are restless as they dream of large piles.."
The rest comes from
the Happy_People bureau of lies, half-truths and misinformation..:-)
Not long after the Lochett dogpile had begun ( a few hours after), another
dogpile commenced, with Elaking, Crustyland, Gunjin, Yamagata, Baldric and
darkwing knocking Byzantium out of the game. It was rumored that this
dogpile was organized by darkwing, who was in a war with Byzantium for a
long time. It is speculated that without this dogpile darkwing would have
been destroyed eventually. Crustyland was the big winner, and got 150
sectors "for free" (or so said Ghostlands). A war of words between Ghostlands
and Crustyland erupted, and everyone wondered how long it would be before
first-time player Crustyland's luck would run out and Ghostie would nuke
him.
Other events of that week included Tofu_Nation backstabbing ally Kalhoun,
taking most of Kalhoun's land easily. Ghostlands grabbed some towards
the end as well.
After Guppy was locked out of his country. Strangely enough, nobody
did much to try to take his land. To this date there are still about
130 sectors of Guppyland available. Nearby powers ACTIUM and
Happy_People, who have been seen casually (and slowly) munching on
guppyland now and then have not put a major effort into taking
his land.
Last week was rumor week. The popular rumor spreading was regarding
ACTIUM, ghostlands and Tenochtitlan (the top three at the time) were
considering claiming a win. The three of them seemed tired of the game.
Everyone else thought there was still a lot to do. Most players were busy
consolidating the land that they had captured from either Lochett or
Byzantium. On friday Metzada attacked darkwing, and seems to have hurt
him a bit. Their war continues to this moment, with Metzada being the
heavy favorite.
Then, it happened. Ghostlands turned on his ally Elaking and attacked, along
with Tenochtitlan an hour later. Tenochtitlan lobbed a couple small nukes
at Elaking (the first nuke launces of the game, by the way), but was
too far to do much else.
Baldric, fearing for his life, organized a coalition against Ghostlands that included Crustyland and Yamagata, along with the already-at-war Elaking. On friday, Crustyland began attackingGhostlands. Baldric and Yamagata soon joined in. Baldric took the brunt of Ghostie's counterattack, taking many small nuke hits. Crustyland did quite well knocking Ghostland's huge 700 plane airforce down to 500 planes approximately. Apparently, Ghostlands had made a tactical error.
Ghostlands has now pulled out of the game due to personal reasons. The
remaining players express their condolences to him.
Meanwhile, down near the bottom of the power chart, a war between
HELL and the capable rookie Dagga erupted. The curse of Dagga continues,
as HELL, with a huge tech lead on Dagga (everyone has a huge tech lead
on Dagga, but they all seem to lose anyways :-) - it probably helped that
Dagga was getting advice from other players..) failed to make any
headway. Dagga was even managing to break through HELL's aircover
and doing some damage:

HELL resorted to the 10kt nuclear solution, and probably regretted it, as
Tenochtitlan dropped a bigger nuke on HELL on Dagga's behalf. The HELL-Dagga
war is far from over, however, as Dagga's low-tech airforce shows signs
of weakening under the strain.

The UAlberta game has finally ended in a stalemate.
Not wishing to break diplomatic ties and backstab, the players declared the game finished, and "everyone won". Since this wasn't a top-of-the-chart game I am inclined to more or less agree, and let people draw their own conclusions from the Power chart.
The game was declared officially over at 1535 local time on Thursday. At that point all alliances, treaties, etc were declared null and void, and everyone was informed they have a week to destroy as much of the world as possible.. The nukes are still flying.
Congrats to all who played, in the face of adversity, and our legendary net lag. We certainly hope to run another soon, and with a smaller world. This game was too big considering the amount of fodder around. I certainly hope a good time was had by most, and that I will see you up here again soon.

The Teddy Roosevelt diplomacy award for the game definiately goes to Tenochtitlan. Along with being involved in organizing many major actions of the game, he managed to be tech leader until the very end, and also managed to keep himself out of any major wars pitting multiple people against him, both through a combination of skilled diplomacy and the "big stick" principle. A diety hoopla to you for a well played game.
The Maggie Thatcher mountain-out-of-molehill award goes to Ionica, who nuked ACTIUM into the stone age after the latter sunk one of the former's patrol boats.. Congrats to both of them on a well fought nuclear war. The loser was mostly glass, and the winner was mostly broke ("Oh yeah! I've got enough cash for one more!!") :-)
The Rookie-of-the-game award without a doubt goes to Crustyland, who in his very first game of empire, is on the top of the power chart! Not bad for someone who didn't have mil on his coasts at the start until we told him. He's a fast learner, look for good things from this one in the future. As noted by Happy_People; "We should have gotten rid of him while he was still fodder.."
And last but certainly not least, the tenacity-to-be-admired award of the game goes to Queen Leigh of Dagga. Also a new player, but withough Crusty's benefit of experienced friends, She managed to hold off SS-FINLAND, Hell, and Yamagata. Note on the tech report that her tech at the END of the game was only 145. (She made some production mistakes). Upon managing to make planes, she also gets a quote award "I can't believe how good it feels to bomb him!". Hats off to Dagga for sticking to her guns in the face of much adversity, a never-die attitude that is an example for all empire players.
