------------------------------
This Empire game is an homage to the legendary wargame OGRE
<http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/> from Steve Jackson Games
<http://www.sjgames.com>.

Each country begins with a 50 sector island already populated and a starting tech of 350. There will be a fair amount of unclaimed land available. The full arsenal of high tech countries is available, although to preserve the tactical feel of the game the largest nukes have been removed and spy satellites have been weakened somewhat.

You can email this address or use the form on the web page to sign up for the game.

For this game there are new units at the top of the tech scale to represent the units from the Ogre game:

Game Summary

(source)

This was the first game I have run, and I made some major mistakes. I
hope to persevere and run a game again based on these custom units.
Several players have made excellent suggestions for Ogre II, which I
hope to run sometime after we get settled in to the Fall Semester here.

The game was won by Dunbar and Helepolis. Using the short distances
between land masses, all nations quickly expanded and several found
and assaulted other player's continents. The exception was Limbo,
which we discovered to our horror had been completely isolated by
so-called "fairland." :)

A major war erupted between Kialune and Blimp, drawing in all the
resources of both nations. Kialune was rescued from destruction by the
intervention of Jabberwocky, which was able to take much of Blimp-land
unopposed in the confusion.

Dunbar by this time dominated the top of the power chart, and two
alliances formed from the surviving players. As this battle began, one
country found it needed to resign for reasons not connected to the war,
ending the game before the armies could really come to grips.

I want to thank the players for trying out my experiment and for giving
me your thoughts, comments, and opinions. We only got a teaser of what
the Ogre land and sea units can do this time, and we can dream about a
real good catastrophic war in the next game. :)
